ACC welcomed members from across the US to Washington, DC, this past weekend for ACC’s Legislative Conference. SC Chapter members visited Capitol Hill to discuss key health policy issues with members of Congress and their staff.

The key topics for this year’s meeting included: Medicare cuts, prior authorization burdens, health equity and more.

Nominations for available positions on ACC’s Committees, including NCDR and ACC Accreditation Services’ committees, are now being accepted until Tuesday, Sept. 13. Interested applicants or nominators are encouraged to review the open positions on the Committee Nominations Portal and may self-nominate or nominate a colleague.

There's still time to enroll in the Collaborative Maintenance Pathway (CMP) and ensure that you have two chances to pass this year. Depending on your specialty, the first Performance Assessment window for the year will be Aug. 13-21 or Oct. 8-16.

The ACC Board of Trustees has approved the College's newest slate of officers and trustees put forth by the ACC Nominating Committee.

I hope all have had a restful 4th of July and perhaps a chance to take time off with family and friends. I wanted to update our members on notable upcoming events in the life of our chapter.

Our NC/SC Joint Annual Conference will be held at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, September 23-25, we will be meeting in the brand-new West Beach Conference Center which has received rave reviews.

When it comes to meeting maintenance of certification (MOC) requirements, you have choices! If you’re due for an MOC assessment this year, the Collaborative Maintenance Pathway (CMP) is an MOC assessment option that helps meet ALL your needs!

The ACC is marking National Nurses Week (May 6 – 12) with a month-long recruitment campaign [acc.org]. Nonmember nurses who join the ACC in May with code Nurses2022 get 40% off of AACC or CV Team membership for 2022, as well as a waiver of the $25 application fee.

The ACC welcomed its newest officers and members of the Board of Trustees to their new roles on April 4. ACC President Edward T. A. Fry, MD, FACC, will serve as ACC’s president for 2022-2023, and B. Hadley Wilson, MD, FACC, is ACC’s new vice president.

The South Carolina chapter kicked off our first State Legislative Day on February 8, 2022.

Chapter President, Michael Foster, MD and board member Rob Malanuk, MD met with Gene Hogan, South Carolina Senate Medical Affairs Committee, Research Director, Senator Sandy Senn, Representative Beth Bernstein and Representative Kirkman Finlay, III.

Dr. Dharini Ramu, MD, FACC is an Assistant Professor in Cardiology in the Medical University of South Carolina, specializing in Advanced heart failure and Cardio-Oncology. On completing medical school in India, she pursued internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Connecticut/ Hartford Hospital program including a year as Chief fellow. She went on to complete an additional fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at the University of Minnesota. She has been on faculty at MUSC since 2016 and is currently the Director of the Cardio-Oncology program and the Co-Director of the CVICU.
