ACC 2024 Legislative Conference Highlights

ACC Legislative Conference 2024, held September 29-October 1 in Washington, DC, offered cardiovascular clinicians a chance to hear from ACC leaders, staff and other experts on health policy issues affecting patients and the profession. This signature three-day event provided an important opportunity to speak directly with members of Congress and their staff on the final day of the meeting.

This year’s conference included educational sessions that provide insights into the federal government’s approach to addressing and regulating artificial intelligence as well as in-depth discussions about this year’s talking points. Additionally, member-driven sessions focused on developing advocacy programs in local communities to equip attendees with the tools and knowledge to sustain advocacy efforts beyond the conference.

SC Chapter members: Chad Ward, MD, Pam Morris, MD, Michael Foster, MD and Jesse Jorgensen, MD

Topics discussed included:

Establish Sustainable Medicare Payment Practices: The background and history of ACC's work on Medicare reimbursement, key takeaways and our ask to Congress to seek reform that will improve access to cardiovascular care.

Foster Care Transformation and Optimization: Encouraging innovative approaches to care delivery and expand telehealth availability.

Champion Access to Care For All: Expanded access to AEDs in elementary and secondary schools and increased cardiomyopathy awareness.
